Cells are the basic units of all life. Bottom-up assembly of a living cell from scratches will not only demonstrate our understanding of life, but also create next-generation biotechnologies. However, in vitro construction of cellular structures and environments is a big challenge. Here we presented a microfluidic route to uniform, controllable artificial cell membrane systems, and then employed such artificial cell membranes to mimic cellular functions including cell-free gene expression, transport of molecules across membranes, macromolecular crowding effect as well as the mimicry of cell endocytosis and exocytosis.

上海交通大学化学工程系特别研究员,博士生导师。四川大学化工本科(2009)和博士(2014),师从褚良银教授;2014-2017荷兰内梅亨大学Wilhelm T.S. Huck教授课题组博士后,期间获欧盟“Marie Curie fellowship”资助;2017-2019哈佛大学George M. Whitesides教授课题组博士后。2019年入选海外高层次人才引进计划青年项目入职上海交通大学。主要研究领域为微流控技术、人工细胞和无细胞合成生物学等。
