从事木质纤维素等生物质的化学和生物转化研究,发表学术论文120余篇,引用7400多次(H指数41)、授权专利11项,曾获得石油和化学工业联合会科技进步一等奖(排名第五),侯德榜化工科学技术奖-青年奖,清华之友-刘述礼育才奖等奖项。入选斯坦福大学发布的2020、2021全球前2%科学家榜单以及2020爱思唯尔中国高被引学者。

从事木质纤维素生物炼制生产生物能源和化学品的多尺度特性和多元化转化研究,包括木质纤维素抗降解屏障的分子机制、预处理过程的工艺开发和反应机理、纤维素酶催化水解反应过程强化及原理、生物质转化的流程模拟、优化与经济性分析、直接生物质燃料电池开发等。
