长期从事先进生物制造、合成生物学及纳米生物技术研究。主持国家重点研发、973、863、国家自然科学基金等课题30余项,在Biotechnology Advances, Metabolic Engineering等期刊发表论文130余篇,专著章节5部,申请/授权发明专利50余项。产业化已创利税10亿多元。曾获教育部技术发明及自然科学二等奖、中石化工联合会技术发明二等奖、青年科技突出贡献奖等。入选教育部新世纪优秀人才、全国百篇优博论文作者、北京市科技新星(A类)。
